Introduction
The twist was a variant of the Tata Nano, a microcar produced by Tata Motors, an Indian automobile company. The Twist was introduced in January 2014 and was marketed as an updated and more feature-rich version of the original Nano.
The history of the Tata twist dates back to 2003, when Ratan Tata, the chairman of Tata Group, announced his vision of creating a low-cost car that could be affordable for the masses in India. The project, codenamed “One-Lakh Car,” aimed to design and produce a car that would cost less than Rs. 1 lakh (approximately $2,000 at the time). After years of research and development, the Tata twist was launched in 2009 as the world’s cheapest car, with a price tag of Rs. 1 lakh (approximately $2,500 at the time).
The Twist featured several improvements over the original Nano, including a power steering system, improved suspension, better sound insulation, and an openable hatchback. The car was also available in several new colors and with optional features such as alloy wheels and a music system. The Twist was powered by the same 624cc two-cylinder engine as the original Nano, which produced 38 horsepower and 51 Nm of torque.
Despite the updates, Twist failed to revive the sales of the twist, and the company eventually decided to discontinue the model in 2018. Over the course of its production, the Tata Twist sold approximately 10,000 units.
In summary, Twist was introduced in 2014 as an updated and more feature-rich version of the original Tata twist, which was launched in 2009 as the world’s cheapest car. Despite the updates, Twist failed to meet sales expectations, and the model was eventually discontinued in 2018 after selling approximately 10,000 units.
