An "ACC Disabled" or "Clean Front Sensor" warning on a 2022 Honda Civic occurs when the Central Sensing Control Unit detects an interrupted visual line-of-sight for the windshield-mounted monocular camera or a system CAN-bus communication error.
Unlike previous Honda generations that used a lower front grill radar plate, the 11th-gen Civic relies primarily on an upgraded wide-field camera mounted inside the top center of the front windshield behind the rearview mirror.
Common triggers for ACC system lockouts include:
-
Windshield Glass Obstructions: Snow, ice, heavy frost, dead bugs, or mud caked over the top center of the windshield glass.
-
Internal Glass Fogging: Moisture or condensation trapped on the inside glass cover over the camera lens during humid weather.
-
Direct Sun Glare: Driving directly toward a low-angled morning or evening sun blinding the optical camera aperture.
-
Overheated Camera: High interior cabin temperatures while parked in direct sun causing thermal protection shutdowns.
How to Diagnose and Resolve the Fault:
-
Step 1: Clean the Glass Zone. Turn on the windshield wipers and defroster. Manually clean the outer top-center area of the windshield with glass cleaner.
-
Step 2: Clear Internal Condensation. Turn the ignition ON, set the climate control HVAC to MAX DEFROST with the A/C turned on to clear any internal fogging trapped in the camera housing unit.
-
Step 3: Perform an Ignition Power Cycle. Park the car safely. Switch off the engine, open the driver door to interrupt auxiliary power, lock the vehicle, and wait 5 minutes. Restart the engine to force a camera diagnostic self-test.
Safety Note: If the ACC light flashes yellow with a persistent letter error code after windshield replacement, the camera requires a camera target recalibration procedure at an authorized service facility.
