A spongy or low foot brake pedal on a 2022 Honda Civic indicates trapped air in the hydraulic brake lines, degraded/contaminated brake fluid, worn brake pads, or a leak in the master cylinder or caliper seals.

How to Bleed the Hydraulic Foot Brakes:

Step 1: Clean the top of the brake master cylinder reservoir under the hood and fill to the MAX line with fresh DOT 3 Brake Fluid (or Honda Heavy Duty Brake Fluid DOT 3).

Step 2: Attach a clear vinyl hose over the caliper bleed xxxx and submerge the opposite end in a container of fresh fluid.

Step 3: Have an assistant pump the foot brake pedal 3 times and hold firm pressure down.

Step 4: Open the bleed xxxx 1/4 turn to let trapped air and fluid escape, tighten the xxxx , and then release the pedal.

Step 5: Repeat until fluid flows free of air bubbles, keeping the master cylinder reservoir filled throughout the process.
