Maintaining a 2012–2018 RAM 1500 requires tracking specific engine oil capacities and adherence to the factory maintenance interval schedule:
Service Intervals
-
Every 8,000–10,000 Miles (or 1 Year): Change engine oil and filter, rotate tires, and perform multi-point safety inspection.
-
Every 20,000–30,000 Miles: Replace cabin air filter and engine air filter element.
-
Every 60,000–100,000 Miles: Replace spark plugs (100,000 miles for 3.6L V6 & 5.7L HEMI; 30,000 miles for older 4.7L V8), change automatic transmission fluid/filter, and refresh engine coolant.
Engine Oil Specifications & Capacities
-
3.6L Pentastar V6: 6.0 Quarts (5.7L) of SAE 5W-20 API Certified Oil.
-
5.7L HEMI V8: 7.0 Quarts (6.6L) of SAE 5W-20 API Certified Oil (MDS system requires 5W-20).
-
3.0L EcoDiesel V6: 10.5 Quarts (9.5L) of SAE 5W-40 Synthetic Engine Oil (MS-10902 / API CJ-4).
Tire Rotation Procedure Rotate tires every 8,000 to 10,000 miles using the Forward Cross pattern for rear-wheel drive / 4WD trucks: rear tires move straight up to the front, and front tires move back to opposite sides (front left to rear right, front right to rear left). Torque wheel lug nuts to 130 lb-ft (176 Nm).
