Warning lights and indicators

The warning lights and indicators on the instrument cluster, overhead console panel, and outside rear-view mirrors inform the driver of the status of the vehicle’s various systems.

Instrument cluster

For explanation, the following illustrations display all warning lights and indicators illuminated.

The units used on the meters and some indicators may differ depending on the target region.

Warning lights

Brake system warning light USA

Indicates that:

 

• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
• Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe
  place and contact your Toyota dealer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.

Brake system warning (Canada) (Red)

Indicates that:

 

• The brake fluid level is low; or
• The brake system is malfunctioning
• Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe
  place and contact your Toyota dealer. Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.

The brake system warning light

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

 

• The parking brake system;
• The regenerative braking system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system
• Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

Charging system warning light

Indicates a malfunction in the vehicle’s charging system

 

• Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your Toyota dealer.

High coolant temperature warning light

Indicates that the engine is overheating

Low engine oil pressure warning light

Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low

Hybrid system overheat warning light

Indicates that the hybrid system has overheated

Malfunction indicator lamp

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

 

• The hybrid system;
• The electronic engine control system;
• The electronic throttle control system; or
• The emission control system (if equipped)

Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

Malfunction indicator lamp (Canada)

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

• The hybrid system;
• The electronic engine control system;

SRS warning light

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

• The SRS airbag system; or
• The seat belt pre-tensioner system

ABS warning light USA

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

 

• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system

Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

ABS warning light (Canada)

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system

Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

Electric power steering system warning light (Red)

Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

 

Electric power steering system warning light (Yellow)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

 

PCS warning light
Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Colli-sion System).
Follow the instructions displayed on the
multi-information display.
If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system is disabled, the PCS warning light will illuminate.

LTA indicator (Orange)

Indicates a malfunction in the LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

 

LDA indicator (Orange)
Indicates a malfunction in the LDA (Lane Departure Alert)
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

 

PDA indicator (Orange)
Indicates a malfunction in the PDA (Proactive Driving Assist).
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

 

The cruise control indicator (Orange)

Indicates a malfunction in the cruise control system.
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

 

Dynamic radar cruise control indicator (Orange)
Indicates a malfunction in the dynamic radar cruise control system.
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

 

Driving assist information indicator

Indicates one of the following systems is malfunctioning.

 

• PCS (Pre-Collision System)
• LDA (Lane Departure Alert)

Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.
Indicates one of the following systems is malfunctioning or disabled.

• PKSB (Parking Support Brake) (if equipped)
• RCD (Rear Camera Detection) (if equipped)
• BSM (Blind Spot Monitor) (if equipped)
• RCTA (Rear cross traffic alert) (if equipped)
• Safe Exit Assist (if equipped)

Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

Intuitive parking assist OFF indicator

When a buzzer sounds:
Indicates a malfunction in the Intuitive parking assist function
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.
When a buzzer does not sound:
This indicates that the system is temporarily unavailable, possibly due to a sensor being dirty or covered with ice, etc.
Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.

Slip indicator light

Indicates a malfunction in:

 

• The VSC system;
• The TRAC system; or
• The hill-start assist control system

Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

Inappropriate pedal operation warning light

When a buzzer sounds:

 

 

• The Brake Override System is malfunctioning
• Drive-Start Control is malfunctioning
• Drive-Start Control is operating

Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-information display.
When a buzzer does not sound: the Brake Override System is operating. Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.

Brake hold operated indicator (Flashes)

Indicates a malfunction in the brake hold system
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

Parking brake indicator (U.S.A.) (Flashes)
It is possible that the parking brake is not fully engaged or released
Operate the parking brake switch once again.
This light comes on when the parking brake is not released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully released, the system is operating normally.

Parking brake indicator (Canada) (Flashes)
It is possible that the parking brake is not fully engaged or released
Operate the parking brake switch once again.
This light comes on when the parking brake is not released. If the light turns off after the parking brake is fully released, the system is operating normally.

Tire pressure warning light

When the light comes on after blinking for approximately 1 minute (a buzzer does not sound):
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
Have the system checked by your Toyota dealer.
When the light comes on (a buzzer sounds):

• Low tire inflation pressure from natural causes
  After the temperature of the tires has lowered sufficiently, check the inflation pressure of each tire and adjust them to the specified level.
• Low tire inflation pressure from flat tire

Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and perform the necessary actions.

Low fuel level warning light
AWD models
Indicates that the remaining fuel is approximately 6.0 L (1.7 gal., 1.4 Imp. gal.) or less

2WD models
Indicates that the remaining fuel is approximately 6.4 L (1.6 gal., 1.3 Imp. gal.) or less
Refuel the vehicle.

Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light
Warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their seat belts
Fasten the seat belt. If the front passenger’s seat is occupied, the front passenger’s seat belt also needs to be fastened to make the warning light (warning buzzer) turn off.

1. These lights turn on when the power switch is turned ON to indicate that a system check is being performed. They will turn off after the hybrid system is on, or after a few seconds. There may be a malfunction in a system if the light does not come on, or turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.
2. This light illuminates the multi-information display with a message.
3. Intuitive parking assist OFF indicator turns on when the power switch is turned to ON while the Intuitive parking assist function is on. It will turn off after a few seconds.

WARNING

If a safety system warning light does not come on
Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS warning light not come on when you start the hybrid system, this could mean that these systems are not available to help protect you in an accident, which could result in death or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately if this occurs.

Indicators

The indicators inform the driver of the operating state of the vehicle’s various systems.

Turn signal indicator

1. 
   Right turn
2. Lane change to the right (move the lever partway and release it)
   The right-hand signals will flash 3 times.
3. Lane change to the left (move the lever partway and release it)
   The left-hand signals will flash 3 times.
4. Left turn

Headlight indicator
Operating the switch turns on the lights as follows:
U.S.A. (type A)

1. The daytime running lights turn on.
2. The side marker, parking, tail, license plate, instrument panel lights, and daytime running lights
   turn on.
3. The headlights and all lights listed above (except daytime running lights) turn on.
4. Off

U.S.A. (type B)

1. The headlights, side markers, parking, LED accessories lamp, daytime running lights, and so on turn on and off automatically.
2. The side marker, parking, LED accessories lamp, tail, license plate, instrument panel lights, and daytime running lights turn on.
3. The headlights and all lights listed above (except daytime running lights) turn on.
4. The daytime running lights turn off.

Tail light indicator
Operating the switch turns on the lights as follows:
U.S.A. (type A)

1. The daytime running lights turn on.
2. The side marker, parking, tail, license plate, instrument panel lights, and daytime running lights
   turn on.
3. The headlights and all lights listed above (except daytime running lights) turn on.
4. Off

U.S.A. (type B)

1. The headlights, side markers, parking, LED accessories lamp, daytime running lights, and so on turn on and off automatically.
2. The side marker, parking, LED accessories lamp, tail, license plate, instrument panel lights, and daytime running lights turn on.
3. The headlights and all lights listed above (except daytime running lights) turn on.
4. The daytime running lights turn off.

Headlight high beam indicator

Turning on the high-beam headlights

1. With the headlights on, push the lever away from you to turn on the high beams.
   Pull the lever toward you to the center position to turn the high beams off.
2. Pull the lever toward you and release it to flash the high beams once.
   You can flash the high beams with the headlights on or off.

AHB indicator
Using the Automatic High Beam system

1. Press the Automatic High Beam switch.
2. Turn the headlight switch to the or position.

When the headlight switch lever is in the low beam position, the AHB system will be enabled and the AHB indicator will illuminate.

Smart key system indicator
Performing the following operations when carrying the electronic key on your person starts the hybrid system or changes power switch modes. Starting the hybrid system

 

1. Pull the parking brake switch to check that the parking brake is set.
   The parking brake indicator will come on.
2. Firmly depress the brake pedal. and a message will be displayed on the multi-information display.
   If it is not displayed, the hybrid system cannot be started.
   When the shift position is N, the hybrid system cannot start. Shift the shift position to P when starting the hybrid system.
3. Press the power switch shortly and firmly.
   When operating the power switch, one short, firm press is enough. It is not necessary to press and hold the switch.
   If the “READY” indicator turns on, the hybrid system will operate normally.
   Continue depressing the brake pedal until the “READY” indicator is illuminated.
   The hybrid system can be started from any power switch mode.
4. Check that the “READY” indicator is illuminated.

LTA indicator  (White)

The operating state of the LTA system is indicated. The vehicle is departing the lane toward the side which the lane display is flashing

 

LTA indicator  (Green)
The operating state of the LTA system is indicated. The vehicle is departing the lane toward the side which the lane display is flashing

 

LTA indicator (Orange) (Flashes)
The operating state of the LTA system is indicated. The vehicle is departing the lane toward the side which the lane display is flashing

 

LDA indicator (White)

The operating state of the lane departure alert function and steering assist operation of the lane departure prevention function are indicated. The lane departure alert function is operating for the side on which the lane display is flashing

LDA indicator (Green)
The operating state of the lane departure alert function and steering assist operation of the lane departure prevention function are indicated. The lane departure alert function is operating for the side on which the lane display is flashing

LDA indicator  (Orange) (Flashes)
The operating state of the lane departure alert function and steering assist operation of the lane departure prevention function are indicated. The lane departure alert function is operating for the side on which the lane display is flashing

LDA OFF indicator

The operating state of the lane departure alert function and steering assist operation of the lane departure prevention function are indicated. The lane departure alert function is operating for the side on which the lane display is flashing

PDA indicator  (White)
Changing proactive driving assist settings

• The proactive driving assist can be enabled/disabled through a customized setting.
• The settings of the proactive driving assist can be changed through customized settings.

PDA indicator (Green)
Changing proactive driving assist settings

• The proactive driving assist can be enabled/disabled through a customized setting.
• The settings of the proactive driving assist can be changed through customized settings.

Cruise control indicator (Green)

The vehicle can be driven at a set speed even if the accelerator pedal is not depressed.
Use the cruise control only on highways and expressways.

 

WARNING
For safe use

• Driving safely is solely the responsibility of the driver. Therefore, do not overly rely on this system. The driver is solely responsible for paying attention to the vehicle’s surroundings and driving safely.
• Set the speed appropriately according to the speed limit, traffic flow, road conditions, weather conditions, etc. The driver is responsible for confirming the set speed.

Situations in which cruise control should not be used
Do not use the cruise control in the following situations. As the system will not be able to provide appropriate control, using it may lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.

Dynamic radar cruise control indicator (Green)
This dynamic radar cruise control detects the presence of vehicles ahead, determines the current vehicle-to-vehicle distance, and operates to maintain a suitable distance from the vehicle ahead. The desired vehicle-to-vehicle distance can be set by operating the vehicle-to-vehicle distance switch.
Use the dynamic radar cruise control only on highways and expressways.

Dynamic radar cruise control indicator (White)

This dynamic radar cruise control detects the presence of vehicles ahead, determines the current vehicle-to-vehicle distance, and operates to maintain a suitable distance from the vehicle ahead. The desired vehicle-to-vehicle distance can be set by operating the vehicle-to-vehicle distance switch.
Use the dynamic radar cruise control only on highways and expressways.

Intuitive parking assist OFF indicator
The intuitive parking assist can be enabled/disabled on the multi-information display. When the intuitive parking assist function is disabled, the intuitive parking assist OFF indicator illuminates.
To re-enable the system, select the multi-information display, select the intuitive parking assist, and turn it on. If the system is disabled, it will remain off even if the power switch is turned ON after the power switch has been turned off.

Slip indicator light (Flashes)
The slip indicator light will flash while the TRAC/VSC/ABS systems are operating.
Disabling the TRAC system
If the vehicle gets stuck in mud, dirt, or snow, the TRAC system may reduce power from the hybrid system to the wheels. Pressing to turn the system off may make it easier for you to rock the vehicle to free it.
To turn the TRAC system off, quickly press and release.

VSC OFF indicator

To turn the TRAC and VSC systems off, press and hold for more than 3 seconds while the vehicle is stopped. The VSC OFF indicator light will come on and the “Traction Control Turned OFF” will be shown on the multi-information display.
PCS (Pre-Collision System) will also be disabled (only pre-collision warning is available). The PCS warning light will come on and a message will be displayed on the multi-information display.

PCS warning light
The pre-collision system uses sensors to detect objects in the path of the vehicle. When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with a detectable object is high, a warning operates to urge the driver to take evasive action and the potential brake pressure is increased to help the driver avoid the collision. If the system determines that the possibility of a collision is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied to help avoid the collision or help reduce the impact of the collision.

Driving assist information indicator
The safe exit assist can be enabled/disabled on the multi-information display.
When the safe exit assist is off, the driving assist information indicator will illuminate and a message will be displayed on the multi-information display. Each time the power switch is turned ON, the safe exit assist is enabled.

BSM outside rear view mirror indicators (if equipped)

The Blind Spot Monitor is a system that uses rear-side radar sensors installed on the inner side of the rear bumper on the left and right side to assist the driver in confirming safety when changing lanes.

 

Brake hold standby indicator
The brake hold system keeps the brake applied when the shift position is in D or N with the system on and the brake pedal has been depressed to stop the vehicle. The system releases the brake when the accelerator pedal is depressed with the shift position in D to allow a smooth start off.

Brake hold operated indicator

Security indicator

The vehicle’s keys have built-in transponder chips that prevent the hybrid system from starting if a key has not been previously registered in the vehicle’s onboard computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
This system is designed to help prevent vehicle theft but does not guarantee absolute security against all vehicle thefts.

“READY” indicator
Performing the following operations when carrying the electronic key on your person starts the hybrid system or changes power switch modes.

 

Low outside temperature indicator

• Displays the outside temperature within the range of -40°F (-40°C) to 140°F (60°C).
• When the outside temperature is approximately 37°F (3°C) or lower, the indicator will flash for approximately 10 seconds, then stay on.
• In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be displayed, or the display may take longer than normal to change.
  • When stopped, or driving at low speeds (less than 12 mph [20 km/h])
  • When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/exit of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
• When “–” or “E” is displayed, the system may be malfunctioning. Take your vehicle to your Toyota dealer.

EV indicator

The EV indicator comes on when the vehicle is driven using only the electric motor (traction motor) or the gasoline engine is stopped.
The on/off operation of the EV indicator can be changed.

Parking brake indicator (U.S.A.)
The parking brake can be set or released automatically or manually. In automatic mode, the parking brake can be set or released automatically according to the shift position operation. Also, even in automatic mode, the parking brake can be set or released manually.

The parking brake can be set or released automatically or manually. In automatic mode, the parking brake can be set or released automatically according to the shift position operation. Also, even in automatic mode, the parking brake can be set or released manually.

EV drive mode indicator

In EV drive mode, electric power is supplied by the hybrid battery (traction battery), and only the electric motor (traction motor) is used to drive the vehicle.
This mode allows you to drive in residential areas early in the morning and late at night, or in indoor parking lots, etc. without concern for noise and gas emissions.
However, when the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System is active, the vehicle may produce sound.

Eco-drive mode indicator
Helps the driver accelerate in an eco-friendly manner and improve fuel economy through moderate throttle characteristics and by controlling the operation of the air conditioning system (heating/cooling). When Eco drive mode is selected, the Eco drive mode indicator comes on.

Sport mode indicator
Controls the hybrid system to provide quick, powerful acceleration. This mode also expands the possible rate of deceleration by operating the accelerator pedal and enables acceleration/deceleration control based on the driver’s intentions. This changes the steering feel, making it suitable for when the agile driving response is desired, such as when driving on roads with many curves.
When Sport mode is selected, the Sport mode indicator comes on.

Custom mode indicator

Allows you to drive with the power train, steering wheel, and air conditioning system functions set to your preferred settings. Custom mode settings can only be changed on the drive mode customization display of Multimedia Display.
When the Custom mode is selected, the Custom mode indicator comes on.

“PASSENGER AIR BAG” indicator lights
Your vehicle is equipped with a front-passenger occupant classification system. This system detects the conditions of the front passenger seat and activates or deactivates the following SRS airbags.

• SRS warning light
• Driver’s and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light
• The “PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF” indicator light
• The “PASSENGER AIR BAG ON” indicator light

1. This light illuminates the multi-information display with a message.
2. Except for Puerto Rico
3. For Puerto Rico
4. The light comes on when the system is turned off.
5. Intuitive parking assist OFF indicator turns on when the power switch is turned to ON while the Intuitive parking assist function is on. It will turn off after a few seconds.
6. These lights turn on when the power switch is turned to ON to indicate that a system check is being performed. They will turn off after the hybrid system is on, or after a few seconds. There may be a malfunction in a system if the lights do not turn on, or turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.
7. This light illuminates the outside rear-view mirrors.
8. This light illuminates the overhead console panel.
9. When the outside temperature is approximately 37°F (3°C) or lower, the indicator will flash for approximately 10 seconds, then stay on.

BSM (Blind Spot Monitor) outside rear view mirror indicators (if equipped)
To confirm the operation, the BSM outside rear view mirror indicators illuminate in turning the BSM function/RCTA function on
If the system is functioning correctly, the BSM outside rear-view mirror indicators will turn off after a few seconds.
If the BSM outside rear-view mirror indicators do not illuminate or do not turn off, there may be a malfunction in the system. If this occurs, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.
