Arcimoto is a company that specializes in developing and manufacturing electric three-wheeled vehicles, and the motors used in these vehicles play a critical role in their performance and efficiency. Here is a brief overview of the history and introduction of Arcimoto motors:
The early prototypes of Arcimoto vehicles were powered by off-the-shelf electric motors, but the company quickly realized that it needed a custom motor to optimize the performance and efficiency of its vehicles. In 2011, Arcimoto began working with a company called Motenergy, which specializes in developing electric motors for a wide range of applications.
Motenergy worked closely with Arcimoto to design and build a custom motor that would meet the company’s specific needs. The resulting motor, known as the ME1003, was a three-phase AC motor that could deliver up to 30 horsepower and 63 lb-ft of torque. The motor was designed to be compact, lightweight, and efficient, making it an ideal choice for use in Arcimoto’s vehicles.
Over the years, Arcimoto has continued to work with Motenergy to develop and refine its motors. In 2018, the company introduced a new motor for its Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV) that was even more powerful and efficient than the ME1003. This new motor, known as the FUV Powertrain, is a liquid-cooled permanent magnet motor that can deliver up to 67 horsepower and 102 lb-ft of torque. The FUV Powertrain also features a built-in controller and regenerative braking system, making it a highly integrated and efficient system.
Today, Arcimoto continues to work with Motenergy and other partners to develop and refine its motors and powertrain systems. The company is committed to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and delivering innovative, efficient, and fun vehicles that are accessible to everyone.
