Subaru Ventilator Control Guide
Center Ventilators
- Open
- Close
Move the tab to adjust the flow direction.
To open the ventilator, turn the cente r grille open/close wheel upward to the position.
To close it, turn the wheel downward t o the position.
Side Ventilators
- Open
- Close
To adjust the flow direction, move the tab.
Climate Control Panel
WARNING
- The cooling function operate s only when the engine is running.
- Do not leave children or adult s who would normally require th e support of others alone in you r vehicle. Pets should not be lef t alone either. On hot, sunny days , temperatures in a closed vehicl e could quickly become hig h enough to cause severe o r possibly fatal injuries to peopl e or animals.

Automatic Climate Control Operation
When this mode is selected, the fa n speed, airflow mode, air-inlet control, an d air conditioner operation are automaticall y controlled. To activate this mode, perfor m the following.
- Press the AUTO button. The FUL L AUTO mode is selected and the FUL L AUTO indicator light on the display illumi-nates.
- Set the preferred temperature usin g the temperature control dial.
NOTE
- Operate the automatic climat e control system when the engine i s running.
- Even when cooling is not necessary , the air conditioner will automaticall y turn on if the temperature is set muc h lower than the current outlet ai r temperature. Even in this case, the A/C indicator light on the control pane l illuminates
- The air conditioner may not operat e in the following cases:
- When the cabin temperature i s low
- When the ambient temperatur e decreases close to 32°F (0°C)
- The controllable temperature rang e may vary depending on the regiona l specifications of the vehicle.
- If you operate any of the buttons o n the control panel other than the ON/OFF button, rear window defogge r button, SYNC button and temperatur e control dial(s) during FULL AUT O mode operation, the FULL indicato r light on the control panel will turn of f and the AUTO indicator light wil l remain illuminated. You can the n manually control the system as desire d using the button you operated. T o change the system back to the FUL L AUTO mode, press the AUTO button.
To turn off the climate control system, press the ON/OFF button. Then the ai r inlet selection will be set to the following. - When the air inlet selection is set t o auto mode: Outside air circulation
- When the air inlet selection is set t o manual mode: No change
When the ignition switch is changed to th e OFF or ACC position from ON, the ai r inlet mode will automatically change to th e outside air mode regardless of whether it is the auto mode or manual mode.
Sensors
- Interior air temperature sensor
- Solar sensor
The automatic climate control syste m employs several sensors. These sensor s are delicate. If they are treated incorrectl y and become damaged, the system ma y not be able to control the interior tempera-ture correctly. To avoid damaging th e sensors, observe the following precau-tions:
- Do not subject the sensors to impact.
- Keep water away from the sensors.
- Do not cover the sensors.
Manual Climate Control
Airflow Mode Selection
Select the airflow mode using the airflo w mode selection button.
Airflow modes are as follows.
Ventilation: Instrument panel outlets
Ventilation 2: Instrument panel outlets an d foot outlets
Bi-level: Instrument panel outlets and th e foot outlets
Heat: Foot outlets, both side outlets of th e instrument panel and some through wind-shield defroster outlets (A small amount of air flows to the windshield and both sid e windows to prevent fogging.)
Heat-def: Windshield defroster outlets, foot outlets and both side outlets of th e instrument panel
Temperature Control
Turn the temperature control dial to set the preferred interior temperature.
NOTE
The controllable temperature rang e may vary depending on the regiona l specifications of the vehicle.
MAX A/C mode
For quicker cooling, press the MAX A/C button.
When the MAX A/C mode is on, th e following settings will be changed auto-matically.
- The air conditioner will turn on.
- The temperature will be set on th e lowest.
- The fan speed will be set on th e maximum speed.
- The air inlet will be set to the recircula-tion mode.
- The airflow mode setting will be set t o the ventilation mode.
To turn off MAX A/C mode and return th e previous setting, press the MAX A/C button again.

SYNC mode
When the SYNC mode is turned on, bot h the drivers and front passengers sid e temperatures are synchronized using th e drivers side temperature control dial.
Press the SYNC button to turn on th e SYNC mode. The SYNC button indicato r will illuminate.
Press the SYNC button again or turn th e front passengers side temperatur e control dial to cancel the SYNC mode. The SYNC button indicator will not illumi-nate. In this case, temperature control o n the drivers side and front passengers side is separated.
The temperature will be controlled individ-ually using the drivers and front passengers temperature control dials.
Fan Speed Control
Select the preferred fan speed by turnin g the fan speed control dial.
Air Conditioner Control
The air conditioner operates only whe n the engine is running.
Press the air conditioner button while th e fan is in operation to turn on the air condi-tioner. When the air conditioner is on, th e A/C indicator light illuminates.
To turn off the air conditioner, press th e button again. The indicator light will tur n off.
NOTE
For efficient defogging or dehumidify-ing in cold weather, turn on the ai r conditioner. However, if the ambien t temperature decreases to approxi-mately 32°F (0°C), the air conditione r and dehumidification system may no t work properly.
