Situations unsuitable for cruise control
Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations.

  • On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
  • On steep hills
    Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.

Setting the vehicle speed

  1. Press the cruise control main switch to activate the cruise control.
    The cruise control indicator will be displayed.

  2. Accelerate or decelerate, with accelerator pedal opera-tion, to the desired speed (at or above approximately 20 mph [30 km/h] and press the “-SET” switch to set the speed.
    The cruise control “SET” indicator will be displayed.

Adjusting the set speed

  1. Increases the speed
  2. Decreases the speed
    Fine adjustment: Press the switch. Large adjustment: Press and hold the switch to change the speed, and release when the desired speed is reached.
    The set speed will be increased or decreased as follows: Fine adjustment: By 1 mph (1.6
    km/h)*1 or 1 km/h (0.6 mph)*2 each time the switch is operated.
    Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually until the switch is released.
    1. When the set speed is shown in “MPH”
    2. When the set speed is shown in “km/h”

  1. Pressing the cancel switch cancels the constant speed control.
    The speed setting is also cancelled when the brakes are applied.
  2. Pressing the “+RES” switch resumes the constant speed control.
    Resuming is available when the vehicle speed is more than approxi-mately 20 mph (30 km/h).

Cruise control can be set when

  • The shift lever is in D.
  • Vehicle speed is above approxi-mately 20 mph (30 km/h).

Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed

  • The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed resumes.
  • Even without cancelling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pushing the “-SET” switch to set the new speed.

Automatic cancellation of cruise control
Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following situations.

  • Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the preset vehicle speed.
  • Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 20 mph (30 km/h).
  • VSC is activated.
  • TRAC has been activated for some time.
  • When the VSC or TRAC system is turned off.

If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multi-information display
Press the cruise control main switch once to deactivate the system, and then press the switch again to reactivate the system.
If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immediately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control system. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

Stop & Start system

The Stop & Start system stops and starts the engine according to the brake pedal or shift lever operation when the vehicle is stopped, such as at a stoplight, intersection, etc., to improve fuel economy and reduce noise pollution caused by the engine idling.

When the brake hold sys-tem is operating

  • When the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, if the brake pedal is released the engine will remain stopped.
  • If the accelerator pedal is depressed while the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, the engine will restart.
  • While the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, if the engine is restarted, the brake hold system will continue to apply the brakes, unless the operation condi-tions of the brake hold system are no longer met.

When the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range is operating (vehicles with a dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range)

  • When the vehicle is stopped by the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range, the engine will stop automati-cally even though the brake pedal is not depressed.
  • When the preceding vehicle starts, the engine will restart automatically.
  • If the engine is restarted automatically by the Stop & Start system during a controlled stop by the dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range, the controlled stop will continue.
